Welcome to our magnificent collection of Accordion-Family Instruments. We care that your experiences here are pleasant and memorable. 1300 instrument examples and over 1500 artifacts from all parts of the world have been provided for your education and amazement. We hope to stimulate your awareness of the cultural importance of these instruments and their significance in modern life.

This museum is organized as a self-guided facility with numerous explanatory signs to help you along the path from earliest to modern state-of-the-art examples. An abbreviated floor plan of the displays is available at the sign-in desk. When possible, one of our student-helpers may provide answers to questions, but please respect their time is not at your disposal. If you would like to hear accordion music during your visit, please ask for the audio system to be turned on.

As an educational institution, we have ongoing and simultaneous obligations that help keep our totally non-profit and non-funded doors open. Please understand that the admission fee does not include the right to play any of the instruments or to touch any of the artifacts. If you are an experienced accordionist/concertinist and wish to try an instrument, please contact the curator beforehand.

A narrated 30-minute tour by the curator must be scheduled in advance and accompanied by an additional fee. For this personalized tour, please choose one of the following presentation types:

  1. History and evolution of the instrument family: a guide through the museum displays
  2. Curator performances on selected instruments
  3. Construction and quality-graded characteristics of the instruments
  4. Informal chat about experiences with accordions and music
  5. Viewing of the museum’s physical assets, including the museum, concert hall, workshops and libraries

For matters of personal interest, such as instrument repair evaluations, appraisals, music library questions, accordion sales, music lessons, and the like, please schedule with Helmi Harrington.

None of the museum objects are for sale, but do investigate our Gift Shop for new or restored instruments, CDs, books and music books, instrument supplies, figurines and memorabilia, and special or seasonal sales items.

Your Museum Membership helps to support our missions, it rewards you with free admissions, discounts on some Gift Shop items and it entitles you to receive our special newsletters.

Whether enjoying the Wintery Wonderlands of the upper Midwest, or the spectacular lakelands and vistas during the pleasant summer months, or passing through on the way to and from Canada, you'll find Superior an exciting stop off point to discover the wonders of one of the world's most magnificent collections of accordions.

Superior is at the western end of Lake Superior in northwestern Wisconsin. Bordered by Saint Louis, Superior, and Allouez bays, the city is framed by two rivers: the Nemadji and the Saint Louis.

Superior and the neighboring city across the bay, Duluth, Minnesota, form a single metropolitan area called the Twin Ports. They share a harbor that is one of the most important ports on the Great Lakes. Both cities have museum ships (SS William A Irvin in Duluth and SS Meteor in Superior) devoted to the local maritime heritage. Superior was the last port of call for the Edmund Fitzgerald before its sinking in 1975.
